A Thanksgiving Trip to New Hope, PA

This year, Zach and I celebrated Thanksgiving by having two special dinners with family. We spent one weekend with Zoë and Jadzia, Zach’s sisters, making sure to visit the holiday market in downtown Washington, D.C on F Street. And the following week, we met up with Joe and Magda Maxian from the Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna, PA and Isabel, who travelled there from NYC.

Zoë and Jadzia spent time with us at our home in D.C. – we played card games, ate fajitas and tacos at Mission in Dupont Circle while music played overhead, watched a comedy show in Adams Morgan, shopped downtown, and viewed the fascinating exhibits at the Smithsonian museums.

In Buck’s County, Zach and I first walked around Frenchtown, NJ. It’s an old town with beautiful cafés and small shops selling handmade and other unique goods. We ate delicious eggplant paninis and salmon with mashed potatoes at the Frenchtown Café.

We drove from there to New Hope, PA and walked around the downtown area, making sure to stop at the Diana Michaels jewelry shop and Topeo Gallery, which had glass artworks. We then ate a burrito at El Guajillo and later Zach found a ring at Exquisite Earth, a jewelry store selling mostly vibrant gemstone rings. On the cozy, misty evening, we went walking along the Delaware Canal Trail, where we spotted both live birds, such as a stunning Great Blue Heron, and bird statues.

On Thanksgiving morning, Zach and I walked around downtown New Hope and watched as runners took part in the Two Town Turkey Trot. The race involved crossing the Pennsylvania-New Jersey bridge from New Hope to Lambertville. We met up with my sister that afternoon and began our drive to the Joe and Magda’s vineyards of the Sand Castle Winery. We stopped along the way to walk by the Delaware River.
